Case back looks fine, one caveat the serial number is quite early and it seems the square pusher doesn’t fit the serial number (I will look at some reference and update again). The dial though definitely has the word universal and compur repainted, subdial also looks repainted. I would avoid just for the repainted dial.

Wow, thanks. These old chronographs contain so many traps for the unwary... How on earth can you tell that this one has been repainted?! I've looked at similar models online and didn't notice anything...

IMHO case looks heavily polished but consistent with dial in terms of period.

Hmm... I think the serial is indicative of the period and I think square pushers are correct on this reference!

I Would agree there has been restoration of the bad kind done to this dial...

So this seller is not reliable and lies outrageously when he says "Quadrante originale, non ristampato, in ottime condizioni, mostra solo una leggera patina del tempo e delle piccole ossidazioni, e ha un sapore piacevolmente vintage" ?
I tought that this guy was honest...

I was really hoping this was a reputable seller - they have a lot of nice old chronographs.

Then again, they have just put this one up for like 20k, which to my untrained eye looks like a redial? Painting over the silver hour markers and all...

Well there seems to be part of the dial that is original, how shall I put it, there are touch ups on the letterings in the middle and on the subdials while the rest is left untouched....

The dial of the OP is is indeed original, NOT reprinted. The 2 sub-dials have been (partially) refinished (the left one especially not very well).
IMHO also the central writing "COMPUR" is completely original and untouched. The writing "Universal Geneve" MIGHT have been touched up, but I would not be 100% sure. let's say 90% sure and only marginally touched up.
I know people will disagree with me....so be it ;)

Yeah, I think retouched or touched-up are better choices of word :)

A retouch is not a big deal if done properly ...

In this particular case, it looks like whoever did the retouching should have gone to spec savers ....

    upload_2017-11-27_13-13-55.png and upload_2017-11-27_13-15-7.png are a BIG no-no

If they had retouched using the original font as a guide and Tried to get the numbers correctly aligned

    upload_2017-11-27_13-17-24.png

    It may have been OK!

I’ve purchased from them before and they use very warm lighting to make the lumes look patinated. Received my watch and it was grey rather than creamy.

    They accepted my return though.
