Hello - I bought this on ebay and would like help to confirm if this is truly a solid 14kt gold case and if it makes sense that a serial number of 25xxxx placing the watch date to 1967 matches up with the model number on the Ross case back LL6590-1 and the case number 9891862 correspond. I went to Omega site and it didn't seem like the 550 caliber went with the solid 14K gold case. Any help is appreciated. Watch looks good. Supposed to be original crown and dial. Thanks you.
The case is definitely 14K gold and was cased by Ross in the United States. If you move the rotor, you will probably see an OXG code near the regulator which would confirm import into the US. It was not uncommon for watchmakers to import movements into different countries and have gold cases made in those countries for more favorable taxes. This actually looks like a nice and clean example. I would love to see a clearer photo of the Hippocampus - it looks to be in great shape!
That caseback look awesome! You can even see the original embossing on it. I doubt that this watch was worn very often.
