And if you do, what are your opinions? I'm toying with the idea of getting one, possibly on the stainless bracelet to compliment my growing space watch collection. Yes, it's a quartz replica... but I don't have $1.6m for the one and only original, or one of the other prototypes.
No - apparently not. It's the same movement as their precisionist line, a very high frequency three prong quartz crystal from Citizen (hence the 262 kHz on the 6 o'clock sub dial) Apparently good for approx 10s a year.
I bought a Precisionist to wear as a beater and I love it. I subsequently found a couple of crazy deals on the Accutron II movements that are similar but a bit more slim. I've had no problems with any of them, and as far as electronic watches go they are fantastic.
You'll need a fairly large wrist to accommodate this one - it's a beast... 45 or 46mm, I think? From the wrist shots I've seen posted online it can make an average-wristed vintage watch-loving man look like a kid wearing his dad's watch.
I've had one since Christmas. At first it didn't feel big but I find the NATO to be cumbersome. I've just ordered the bracelet. I didn't think Bulova did a very good job at replicating the case until I took some time to really study the original. It's not 100% but really close. I just wish it was closer to the original's size and the subdails matched the original.
good looking watch! these [NATO] things are and look very cumbersome IMO, this watch will look much better on a black leather (croc) strap or black with white stitching...again IMO
