I could be mistaken, but I believe this is probably a painting of winter white plum blossoms, rather than spring cherry blossoms. Plum blossoms are a traditional motif in Chinese art, while cherry blossoms are more strongly associated with Japan. Also, the Chinese poem written in the top right explicitly mentions plum blossoms and is part of “Jingshi Xianwen: Qinfen Pian” (《警世贤文·勤奋篇》). As I understand it, the poem expresses the idea that the sharpness of a fine sword comes from being repeatedly polished and sharpened, while the beautiful fragrance of plum blossoms comes from enduring the bitter cold of winter.
This is lovely - and it certainly seems to inject a sense of life and growth into the room!
This was gifted to my parents by a friend for their wedding. I always liked it, was in my house growing up and still with me today. Obviously done by an amateur but means a lot to me.
