Hello everyone I'm new to omegaforums even if I've been ready the forum for many years now I'm interested in a universal geneve from the mid 1950's that seems to be very rare because I can't find nobody on the internet having one (or selling one).. One appeared here on last year and sold for 350$... that's the only one I manage to find. So i was thinking maybe some of you might have one or might know somebody who has. here's the specs and ref. UNIVERSAL GENEVE ref 40209-1 produced form 1950 to 1955 caliber UG138ss "bumper" case is gold platted 35mm white dial with crosshair here's a photo of the one that sell last year, and documents for the 1950's UG catalog
Nice looking watch! I'm not familiar, but I'm sure the experts will help... do you have any concerns about it? Looks good to my uneducated eyes.
There is a dedicated "want to buy" forum, but you need to accumulate 200 posts first. https://omegaforums.net/threads/ple...s-rules-for-all-listings-inc-parts-wtb.62372/
Hello @anirae and welcome the forum! If you have been reading this forum for many years, you know by now that vintage UG is very challenging yet very rewarding. There is not a lot of information available on UG time-only watches not named "Polerouter" so you will need a lot of patience if you are looking for a specific reference. While you wait for a nice example, here are some ways to pass the time: - Join the conversation and ask questions: https://omegaforums.net/forums/universal-geneve-forum/ - Post a Want To Buy (WTB) in this forum: https://omegaforums.net/forums/wanted-to-buy/ - Buy the book: http://www.librouniversal.it/index.html - Search the interwebs for as many other examples of the references you are interested in. Your goal is to review pictures and descriptions so that you can get a sense of authentic dial variations versus redials and frankens. https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/1950s-universal-geneve-reference-20218?variant=13611290394699 https://www.passions.com.sg/v2/watch/universal-geneve-c1950s-automatic-steel - Are you interested in a 20218/4? One is available here: https://www.splendidfinetimepieces.com/product-page/1951-universal-geneve-automatic
I think this model in steel is a really very handsome watch. I remember lusting over this one with a Gobbi double signed dial.
