I recently asked for help to ID a 1960's Seamaster, and after feedback is was identified as a "Speedmaster Companion". I thought it would be good to document the piece here for future interest. It was just received today and is now being sent for service.

Omega Seamaster / Speedmaster Companion
Case ref 166.002

Dial looks better in your photo's than the auction house ones. It looks almost grey in yours. Congrats.
Oh what is the dial diameter now you have it in your hand?
Cheers

"Speedmaster Companion"

Anyone know where the term "Speedmaster Companion" originated to describe this reference?

It has faded slightly to grey. That's making my strap choice harder 😀

Case diameter is 35mm.

The dial has not faded. It has a gun metal sunburst finish. Great watch!. What auction are you guys referring to?.

Ok, good info on the dial colour.

It was sold just at a local auction house in the UK - Mellors and Kirk. They had about 50 watches auctioned with estimates about 15% of actual value. Either they didn't know what they were doing or they cleverly attracted every watch buyer in the UK. I'm normally reasonably successful at auctions but here I got only 1 of 6. They had a Heuer Carrera that went for £16k plus fees...
