The Vulcain Cricket is one of the coolest watches ever made in my opinion. And it's got a great heritage, having been gifted to almost every US president since Truman. I don't know a whole lot about the brand aside from that but I like the aesthetic. Also... dibs on the Cricket. :D

When I started out in this hobby I spent many hours unsuccessfully hunting for a no-date Centenary, issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the company. Most of these had a date, but of course I had to have the no-date option. It just looked cooler:

I love these old alarm wristwatches. I think it is an awedome complication - i use it all the time. I personally am partial to the JLC Memovox as far as alarm watches go, but Crickets are awesome too! (Also Memomatics, BellMatics, etc)

My first Vintage buy was a sweet little Vulcain bought right here on the forum from @Jwit. Still gets great compliments whenever I wear it. Best $100 I ever spent on a watch...20+ watches later!! IMG_0504.JPG

IMG_5019.JPG Got to see a brand new Vulcain Cricket at Sydel & Sydel Jewlery in Chicago. Jonathan Sydel is a great guy and fun to talk watches with. We talked about Vulcains and the history of the cricket. Definitely recommend the shop if you're ever in Chicago. Also good selection of Bremont, Oris, Grand Seiko, Speake Marin, Moser, Rolex, etc.

Yikes! Someone should tell that watchmaker that you're not supposed to relume with silly putty.

It's a funny story, when I was a child I washed the watch in the washing machine, I was about 8 years pld, inherited it, and when I went to college, I was 27 at the time I found a retired watch maker, to clean it. I forgot about the watch, I had already graduated college, and years went bye. I sent a self addressed priority mail, got the watch back in this condition, AFTER 20 YEARS !
