I love it! I just created a thread yesterday about leather straps and sports watches. I think it's a great combo and if I had that watch I would also be switching between the bracelet and leather.
I think a rally strap might look a little sportier.. Nice to have a few different looks for a watch..
Nope. Is a decent looking strap and a dive watch with awesome lines. But I'd keep them separate. Agree.
Agreed. Breitling, IMO, is one of the few manufacturers whose dive-style watches pull off the leather look, mainly due to their use of calf-grain. That said, how is going with sporty (i.e., alternate stitch color) leather any different than going with say a smooth rubber strap in the same style? Beyond the fact that you KNOW that it's rubber, you really can't draw that line. However, this illustrates the main problem I have with this model; it's trying to be something that it isn't, which is old. If it's the old style and patina that hooked you in, I'd say go with an appropriate strap, like mesh or maybe even shark. Again, JMO.
I think it looks pretty killer, but personally, I'd opt for something a little lighter so that it develops some character and patina over time...just me opinion, though, and we all know what those are like
It's not that I don't like it, its just that I think that watch needs to be on a bracelet or on rubber. It's a diver.
I love the SM300 but can't stand the high polish center links on the bracelet - it will scratch and look worn quite quickly IMHO. Max
What about a distressed leather strap? That one shown is to smooth for a diver. I'm running into similar issue on my 2054. So I have some distressed leather straps coming from Italy.
Ditto, though I still wouldn't do leather; maybe a nato or zulu. But personally I stick with metal bracelets - just personal preference.
