Do you know anyone who lost interest in the hobby?

Very interesting topic. I think our attachment to the hobby depends how deep its rooted in ourselves.
My interest began when my dad gave me my first flik flak when I was 7, I felt like I was powerful and had this thing that allowed me to check the time on my own! 😀
To this day, my dad and I still share the passion (even though he is not half as crazy as I am) and I hope to pass it down to my (hypothetical) kids one day. Vintage watches are just a very romantic way to remind ourselves that we won't be here forever. I don't think I'll ever get bored of watches.
On the other hand, I'm very passionate and very committed to hunting down some of the pieces that I do love (which can range from a monopusher OG Seiko to a black racing dial Speedmaster) and I realize that sometimes I'm being too extreme & maybe I should enjoy more the amazing pieces I already own... But then I think "fυck that" and I lurk instagram to find the next grail watch that I'd never even heard of 😁
Let's live our passion and see where it takes us!

Do you guys really feel like vintage is a money pit?
No not a money pit....As long as the following principles IMO are followed:
1) You are having fun and not being obsessive compulsive.
2) You are not spending money you can't afford to spend or are borrowing to buy watches.
3) You are aiming for quality
4) You are willing to store, insure and maintain properly.
5) You are not so attached that you can never sell.
6) You are wearing what you own.
7) You are not hiding your hobby from your partner.
8) You understand that watches are a terrible investment but are convertible to some level of cash.

.

So you are saying that 20 seconds of pleasure once a year can replace all countless hours of "fun" spent on EBay and various forums???
That often ????/QUOTE]
That long????

I think all hobbies go through phases for everyone and to different levels of intensity.
For me it started with cars, luckily I was too young and broke to go too deep but just last night I was browsing and realising how much of a money pit a race car could be, many half finished projects available for 5-10k after having upwards of 30k plowed in and still needing more to get them finished.
Then it was cameras and photography, my oh my I could've spent some money there chasing cleaner high iso, bigger apertures, faster autofocus etc, again thankfully I didn't have said money to go too crazy though I now have a lovely glass setup that will hold me well for a few years yet. Probably the biggest thing is imo at least photography and cars are more tangible and usable to more people making the justification for sisd items a tad easier; I travel a lot for work so having nice camera gear is a joy to use and in my circles a lot of mates were and still are car nuts.

Saying that I wanted a speedmaster since I read an article about them maybe 10-12 years ago but spending at the time 2/3k on an old omega! What was I thinking, if only hahaha.
Learning from the other 2 I don't know how watches will end up for me, I've certainly learnt not to go as Archer mentioned "all in too hard too soon" as it ends up with burnout.
Having learnt to now I'll probably flick a could earlier buys and sit on 3-4 that I'm really happy with at least then if I get tired of them I'm not left with a stack of items to move on and I'll likely always wear a watch anyway.
As the fiance said to myself and a friend talking watches the other day "they all tell the same time don't they!?" So I know how she feels about it haha
