Do the 3 digit letter codes on clasps/end links actually refer to anything? E.g Country of origin or production year etc.

I've been trying to source a modern Speedy bracelet recently (Apollo 11 50th) and noticed out of about the thirty or so A11 Speedmasters I've seen for sale the bracelets are all engraved with GJB, HJB, IJB, HIJ or JJB like this photo.

I found a bracelet for sale finally and was going to purchase it and noticed it's just got III engraved on it at the links and clasp.

It seems weird that it's literally the only one out of 30+ of these that I've seen with that engraving that none of the others have. Would this III one have been from an ex-display model/Not for sale or factory reject that failed quality control or something?

Just curious, but why would it matter for a bracelet, if it was on an exposition watch? Apart from a few microscratches that you will make as well, the fact it has a different code would not bother me. Buy the seller, what else to suggest.

Just more the concern it could be fake or something I guess. When you've got like 30 of them with a similar kind of code on them then 1 single outlier that's different to all the others it seems a bit weird.
