Do polishing by 3rd party void Omega warranty?

I bought a pre owned watch from a private seller. Seller said there was no dents just scratches along the bracelet. So after i made payment i just realised that there is a deep dent on the lug.

Will 3rd party polishing or laser welding avoid the warranty? The warranty is till 2027 which is still very long.

Omega said they’re only able to polish the watch but only 70% they can buff up the dent. It wont be remove completely.

i was recommended by a friend, a professional watchmaker is able to do laser welding and polishing and can reinstate back to the original condition. He have deal with Rolex customer to be polished back to the original state and no issues about claiming the warranty.

Many thanks all.

It could only void warranty if Omega can see signs the case has previously been opened at the time of a warranty claim.

Are they able to check? If the caseback is opened before?

I wasn't really answering that question, just the one you asked. How they would know? Well I suppose it will depend on the skills of whoever is doing the work, and if they leave any evidence behind.

How much money will you save and how much is a full Omega service (which includes basic polishing), when is the first service due?
In this case if they can make a perfect local repair for the external damage it might be worth the risk compared to the time and extra cost for a factory repair. You then need to consider how big is the risk you will then need to make a warranty claim and if it is refused what would the repair cost be. A full service cost might be a good benchmark...... if the guy is confident and has examples of his work you could go local if the saving is strong.

Since you clearly asked about the condition before the purchase and the seller gave you incorrect info, you should seek a refund then buy another one. It's not a rare/discontinued model and the cost of polishing/servicing/potentially losing warranty is not worth the hassle.

i agree with this. the repairs your suggesting sound 1. expensive and 2. more hassle/stress than it's worth.

two options:
1. if you can't live with it - send it back and get another
2. if you can live with it - ask for a partial refund and stop staring at it

He doesnt want to refund, but he is willing to pay the servicing fee at swatch group. But am still awaiting his reply.

I would not send to Omega as they will just try to polish it down and its a pretty deep dent (as you noted) so it will most definitely look polished/rounded/soft on that corner of the case.
Rather than paying for a service, I would have it laser welded to restore some of the lost material and then they will touch up that work area to (hopefully) match the rest of the case.

Who cares what the seller wants. It was materially misdescribed, send it back

No point: if you can't live with this dent, then claim for a return and refund.

Send it back and end up with no watch and no money…….. We are in strange times and it depends how well transactions are run. I see threads of watches missing in transport, service companies going bust, watches stolen from jewellers who then go bust etc etc.
A bird in the hand can be worth two in the bush these days. If there is an easy and guaranteed / safe route to return it and get a refund, start again and buy a better one, that seems the best way. On the flip side I have had a watch laser welded once for a ding and that went well / impossible to see anything had been done. You need all the facts to make the best decision with the least risk (and worry or time wasting).

I have long stopped sorting the problems of others, and this is the seller's problem, not yours.

Also, the damage done to the watch already has likely voided the Omega warranty...

Yes, I would expect that. But if you take the watch in for something related to the movement, and they see that huge dent, that will be a source of problems with regards to warranty coverage if the issue is shock related.

How long have you had the watch?
How long did you have it before you notified the seller of the dent?

@SuperHumanZ

You should have enough information to decide what you will do next.
Based on your understanding of all points and the feedback what do you plan to do out of interest?

Deep scratches like that won’t come out at all, I have some like that in other watches and the best they do is just blend the edges around dent, that will forever be in your watch, get a refund if you don’t like it since the seller wasn’t transparent with you.
