    Do not do this!
    … unless you’re a watchmaker.
    Instructions:
    1. Do NOT do this
    2. Put that screwdriver down
    3. Too late – call for Al
Do you know the story of the little boy who was curious and undid his navel with a cross-head screwdriver?

1069-71, what's causing that color? Dry oil?

No oil, they’re clean. I guess 118 years of staining?

It looks like it is in good condition to be 118 years old? Are we going to see a service walk through?
Looks like there are some pieces missing?

@alam I agree. I didn’t say this was ‘ex-Al’, heaven forbid. No, this is the headache the watchmaker receives (maybe declines!). It’s just the collection of parts – do not do this!

@rogart Sorry but I’m no watchmaker, so no walk-through. Re missing parts, I agree – but actually all the pieces are there (I didn’t include the screws). The ‘catalogue’ shows the various alternatives that occurred over the years from 1894 (when this calibre started) to 1926 (this catalogue). Since you mention it, here’s the next page which shows the alternatives – and a view of the two escape wheel options: the early watches had the long pinion (with 6 teeth), after about 1902 they used the (8-tooth) short pinioned wheel (and a lot of the wheels changed, with different tooth combinations).

As I said in a recent thread - I charge more when the watch comes to me as a bag of parts. And yes that really does happen...

I think it's a very interesting movement. A real beauty. 8 days how many movements run that long nowadays?

It still amuses me how many new to mechanical watches with one or two posts that need help just to buy a watch comment on giving servicing a go. (Because they like to do most things themselves )

Can just see your watch as bag of parts look Al.

The last one was actually a quartz watch, and it was the former HR manager where I once worked. He is the one that told me I was being cut from my engineering position of 23 years.

He showed up at my door with his wife's Gucci in a baggie that he tried to change the battery on. Case tube was crushed, stem broken off, case back gasket (hard plastic since it was snap on) was completely crushed. I welcomed him with open arms, and charged him accordingly... ;)

Are spare mainsprings exist for these 30"'s and 27"',
or anything new as a replacement in that size?
I mean the mainspring barrel is as wide as a bigger coin... :)

Very unlikely Omega would have new springs. However, you may be able to measure the existing spring and find a modern equivalent.
