Do dashes around "—Swiss Made—" on 1960s Seamasters really indicate painted rather than onyx hour markers?

Hi again OF,

Thank you for all the help with my initial post about looking for a Seamaster 166.010 cal 565 with onyx hour markers.

I've probably missed my shot on this beautiful example, but until another one comes up I'm just going to focus on learning as much as possible about this reference and getting comfortable assessing Japanese listings on Buyee.

I came across this comment which suggested that one could identify painted hour markers by the dashes around the words "—Swiss Made—". Can anyone corroborate this? I know to identify onyx by the vertical dimensionality of the inlay first, but not all listings have photos close enough to see this.

AFAIK, on 166,010 model, "—Swiss Made—" often seen on dial with painted hour markers. But not all dial with painted hour markers come with "—Swiss Made—"

It’s possible that the comment was misinterpreted due to @hoipolloi ‘s economy with words.

I suspect that by the time Omega used
-SWISS MADE- on this reference they were also only using painted indices.

I.e. unlike OM meaning a gold dial or sigma denoting precious metal furniture, the dashes either side of SWISS MADE don’t actually denote painted indices.

Perhaps Hoi can confirm.
