Hi Guys, quick question. I’m looking at an early 90’s 3590.50 and the movement serial number is a little different than the case serial. At first I thought it could be a service movement but according to ilovemyspeedmaster the movement is from September 1991 and the case from October 1991. It seems too close to be a service movement. Was Omega not matching serials in 1991? Thanks,
Do you mean that there is a serial on the lug and a serial on the movement which don’t match? The only obvious explanation is a swapped movement if so. If there are papers, what is on those?
Yes, it appears that the movement and lug have different serial numbers (although very close). There are no papers.
It seems really strange to me that they would be different but close. Is it possible you're confusing a 5 with a 3 or something like that?
It turns out the sales card from the previous dealer had the wrong movement serial number on it (weird because it wasn’t like 6 instead of an 8. They were totally off) but I had them take the dust cover off and confirmed that the serial numbers on the movement matched the lug. I bought the watch once I saw they matched and will order an extract soon
Do you really need an extract for a watch from the 1990s? I mean it adds another £90 to the outlay and I think most buyers would be happy that the watch was straight if the numbers match. It would give you an exact delivery date if that is important to you but otherwise I am not sure what value it will add.
Dealers are CONSTANTLY mixing up boxes (with paperwork) for watches. If they have 5 of the same reference in stock, I guarantee that if any customer got the CORRECT box & paperwork it was a complete accident. You should ask for the correct stuff, because the salespeople really don't care or worry about that one iota.
Yeah, it’s just for my personal satisfaction. I like seeing the country and actual date. After much back and forth and the rising values of all tritium speedmasters I’m happy I got it.
Why does everyone try to talk people out of getting extracts? If someone wants to spend the money, what business is it of ours?
