Hi All Not sure they have been called out before, but I stumbled upon these timepieces on Chrono24. I understand the purists will scream in despair, but they're worth a look: 125, 4.5, V Teutonic are the ones available atm. https://www.chrono24.com/en/omega/speedmaster-125--dlc-geschwaerzt--id4660041.htm https://www.chrono24.com/en/omega/speedmaster-mark-45-dlc-geschwaerzt--id4659991.htm https://www.chrono24.com/en/omega/speedmaster-mark-45-dlc-geschwaerzt--id4659991.htm The black DLC finish (is it truly DLC by the way...), the colored hands, this screams resto-mod. And just like for similarly modded cars, they are polarizing. I happen to love them, the contrast between the 70's design and the newer surface finish with the dash of color is just great. They also had a Mark II with fluorescent yellow hands, and it was my favourite of the bunch What do you respectable OF members think? I'm sure the "puke" emoticon will be used quite a bit Paul
There's a guy on eBay that's been PVDing heaps of old Omegas like that along with several 90s and 2000s models like 2531.80s and 2254.50s, I doubt the coating is much good on any of them but he charges top dollar
https://omegaforums.net/threads/dark-evil-speedmaster-mark-ii.22106/ Hey Paul, have a peek at an OF version.
Even the moomwatch case. https://omegaforums.net/threads/ever-seen-a-black-speedmaster.40080/ I thi k they're kind of cool, but once the novelty wore off, you'd have essentially an unsellable watch, so theyd have to be cheap. Let's see a black 2915!
I don't find anything objectionable. If someone likes them, they'll sell, and if they sell once, they might well sell again. However, and on a purely personal preference, I think the Mark V Teutonic is just too dark. White or even yellow hands would make it pop a bit more. Pity the external bezel markings are completely obscured, but they tend to wear off anyway.
I really, really, really like them... the ultimate stealth look (except the colored hands!) Again, resto-modding and pimping are two different things I think! But you're right. you'd better buy for keeps, because this is un-resellable!
There was one modern Speedmaster selling recently on eBay. Gone for something like 3,6k and popped back on a Swiss auction website a week after for 5,1k CHF I like the stealth look, but I used to have a DLC black Porsche Design P'6612 and it was a nightmare - way too fragile
Yeah, I once saw a 70's Seamaster that had been coated, not a pretty sight... EDIT: This is the one: How crap does that look?!?
I think I like it too, I have to shamely admit Any of the specialists can say more about this watch? HA - found it http://www.woundforlife.com/2014/07...a-seamaster-anakin-skywalker-and-darth-vader/ and Chuck Maddox's original column: http://chronomaddox.com/darth_vader.html Looks like it was a factory treatment actually. I think I want one...
take it to the next step: this was Hublot's designer's internship project before he went to work for JLB, right?
The 1970's sports Omega's are not so in vogue at the moment, 5 - 10 years ago it was quite a different story and for the collector they do offer a lot of cool design aesthetics and interesting features and functions as well as being pretty impressive on the wrist They come from Omega's Hard Metal Collection which I think was released in 1970 or 1971. Back to the OP's subject, my watchmaker has had a few MK II's and also a couple of Professionals done in DLC, it could be his on CH24 as I handled a 1970's Pro recently with cadmium yellow hands. The quality was very good, he is something of a perfectfectionist and did a lot of test runs with a German company before he was happy with the end product. Not for me, but he did tell me the process is 100% reversible if the customer wants to reoriginalise it at a later date.
Looks like overpriced crap doesn't sell : https://www.fr.ricardo.ch/acheter/m...dmaster-professional-moonwatch/v/an837628648/
Well, unfortunately... I like it you can't blame the seller for not trying to highlight his product the right way. TinTin-like caseback, red pilot helmet, I think it's actually pretty cool. But I agree, not at $4k+! Paul
I've got a massive soft spot for PVD watches, but would baulk at coating a true collector's piece. But then, what one an does to his property is completely up to them!
