Thought I'd start a thread so you could show and tell which DIY projects you're currently doing. To tell the truth, it's partly due to wanting to show off a bit of what have been taking up 90% of my spare time the last 4 months, as my girlfriend and I recently bought a house, which really needed a thorough going over. We thought it couldn't possibly be that difficult or time consuming... Here's the newest part of that project; a herringbone oak floor for our living room / kitchen area: This is after the first coat of lacquer (now it's up to 5...), a milestone. Came on a pallet, like this - a complete and utter pig to move inside the house! 65 m2 of 16mm oak flooring is quite heavy. Then a trial stripe was laid out, calculations were made - all in order to figure out where it should be laid, making the pattern with the best layout (nearly impossible). ...And then 50+ m2 were laid out, trying to avoid gaps between the parquet planks (impossible!). Amount of time spent: lost track. Money spent: ...See above Result: Beautiful. Really hoping that we'll be able to enjoy this for the rest of our lives. And if we ever sell the house, I'm drafting a clause to protect the floor! What are all you guys DIY'ing?
My wife and I agreed that DIY probably meant divorce! We believe in Adam Smith - specialisation of labour. Better ideal for me to pay someone else!
In our case it had more to do with the cost of getting craftsmen to do our work - we were qouted roughly $150 per square meter of herringbone, not really an option!
Glue Hideously expensive, massively messy glue. http://gulvlageret.dk/tilbehoer-4/lim-fuge-og-kemi-229/danalim-ms-parketlim-268-8558.html Incredibly, this is roughly half the price of the same or similar products available elsewhere. I thought I had read something wrong in the description, but no - I ended up having to buy seventy litres..!
Time for a new clutch, a/c, exhaust, and and and... Still found time to put a foundation in for my shed out back
Icky yellow light. Daylight LED's show everything. A side benefit is that you can load up the outlets without worry.
We retro fitted (paid an electrician) all of our halogen downlights with LEDs, reduced power consumption from 60w to 10w!
Newest progress around the house: Looking forward to all of this is done with! Luckily the Danish summer hasn't materialised yet, so I'm not missing out on anything
Dang! You dudes are pretty handy! Nice work! I'm not so handy...but I did manage to cut a dash pad sun protector for my beloved '07 Ford Police Interceptor today.
Solid oak, 16mm. Not the obvious choice for using with underfloor heating, but I really hope it'll work out fine.
Just got the front end together on my 36 Ford Station Wagon - I must have had the fenders off 50 times
