In the history of watches, aside from the water resistance of a dive watch, is there a big difference between a dive watch or a pilot watch? Not familiar as I might be with a pilot watch but when you look at a new Marathon "navigation watch", it looks sort of like a dive watch too.

A few things a pilot watch may have a diver probably doesn't, though I'm sure the lines are a bit blurry.. multiple time zones, slide rule calculators, etc..

    Just a couple thoughts.

Here's a Seiko "SporkPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network" on eBay, so named because it has aspects of a dive watch (rotating bezel, screw-in crown) and a pilot watch (large, highly luminescent numbers, easier to read in a dim cockpit).

    Diver have: (typically )

    Higher water resistance
    Rotating bezel
    Easier visibility under low light
Enhanced 5 minute markers for diving
    Often more shok proof

    Pilots:
-Multiple time zones (GMT, TZC etc)
-one or multiple speed and distance measuring (tachymeter etc)
    - used to have more emphasis on antimagnetic qualities .

Both should give you the time of day/ night.

Dive watches work great for desk divers who want to daydream that they're Jaques Cousteau while at the office.

Pilot watches work great for when you lie to a chick at a bar and tell her you're an airline pilot on layover for one night.

The two aren't mutually exclusive either, most Aeroflot pilots were issued with dive watches just in case they survived the crash.
