60+ yes ago my grandparents got married and this was the watch my grandfather received (she got one too, but someone else has hers). I personally reconnected with it recently when he passed and just wanted to share it with the forum and to see if anyone else had any solvil l, ditisheim, or interesting lug watches to share....
Sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing. Not familiar at all with the watch or marque, but it is great to have such an heirloom in the family. Do you know any more about where it was purchased?
No I don't know a lot about where it was purchased, but I do happen to have the original box and strap
Paul Ditisheim was the son of the founder/owner of Vulcain according to a couple of quickly found references. So, a solid pedigree in La Chaux-de-Fonds and apparently some success as a brand back in the day.
I didn't realize the Vulcain connection, very interesting. If you look on epray they usually have quite a few of them on there at any given time. They made a lot of high end watches in solid gold and platinum, several with jeweled dials, and I believe the solvil name was typically their lower end, but more like a Tudor to Rolex. The later ones I believe to be even lower in quality. My grandfather seemed to think this particular movement had some historical significance. But I don't have the guts to open it up right now. When I get it serviced I plan to take some pics...
These are my favorite kinds of watches, the ones that have family history. Very cool watch with plenty of mystery behind it. Thank you for sharing @ncstate1201
Stunning I have not paid as much attention to their pocket watches, perhaps I should. Do you have any movement shots?
