    Goodday gents,

I've been reading, as usual, and found some references on various forums - including here - mentioning that there are some differences in straight lug cases between 2915, 2998 and even the last of them, 105.002/3.

What are the differences? I have old found references to the fact that there are differences, no mention of what they are.

    Thoughts and feedback very welcome

    Thanks!

I know there's a thread here with lots of pics ....not too old ... where @Barking mad gave a pictorial highlight and many others chiming in. Would've searched myself but stuck in a meeting where prolonged glances downward 'at my notes' LoL would um...concern others in the meeting....

Have you read the pertinent chapter in MWO?

Concerning the middle part of the case there are two things to my knowledge undergoing variations: notch for pushers and thread size for the caseback.
Beside the different producers of the case made the edges slightly different.

I often think it looks like the 105.003-65 cases made by the unknown maker, have a slightly different cut, especially to the facets than earlier cases. Specifically, it looks like the facet is much slimmer, where-as the earlier cases look to have a thicker fact which tapers outwards towards the end of the lugs

It's hard to know though as so many have seen the thick end of a polishing wheel.

The circumference of the case where the bezel snaps on is also smaller on the 2915 to early 2998 (base 1000 bezels) I believe.

Thanks gents, these tips are helpful.

from MWO, it seems that there's really not much difference. References 2915-1 to -3, 2998-1 to 62, 105.002-62, 105-003-63 to -65 and 145.003 all have the same dimensions.

    lug to lug, 48mm
    diameter excluding crown: 38.2mm
    diameter including crown: 42.2mm
bezel: 38.6mm for the steel bezels and 39.7 for the black bezels
    between the lugs: 19mm

so the bezels are slightly different, but everything else appears to be the same - other than some interesting tid-bits noted above by esteemed members.

It is not that easy as you think...

There are some tiny but important differences, e.g. the 2915 has a slightly asymmetrical "seat" of the bezel...

And I remember a thread which discussed that the case backs are not fully interchangeable between 2915 and 2998 because the case back does not screw down fully on one of the refs (but I do not recall which case back on which main body...)

    just my 2 cents

Exactly. The 2915 and 2998 casebacks and cases are not interchangeable, at least mine are not.
