Dear Community! Can someone tell me the difference between the white and the blue Speedmaster Crator Box? Is one of both more rare? Thanks!
Mine and every other one I've seen on the web are blue. This thread shows a "white" box that came with a 1969 gold Apollo XI Speedmaster; it doesn't look like the "white" box above, though. Could be rare; could be that someone printed "Speedmaster" on a white piece of paper and glued it over a messed up original. Notice the left alignment differs. Yikes!
I've seen the white one above before on a cal. 1045. Here's the link, pic taken from it: I've also seen a few Mark III's (cal. 1040) with the blue box. Link and the pic: I have no good theories as to why there were different versions.
I don't think it's glued, and the surface has the same structure than the rest of the base of the box....
Wish they kept a box like that, looks so cool compared to the red faux leather box that was standard for ages.
I know some people dislike the current setup but I think the Speedmaster deserves a unique, special box, so I quite like the Case
The new one looks great, even the space suit material on the X-33 box was nice its the red pleather one that bugs me, so many crummy peeling boxes in my wardrobe.
OK, to give more confusion: I asked at the Omega Arcives in which Box my 1973 Speedy Pro Straight writing was delivered. In their reply this Pic was attatched:
