Hi guys, Forgive me if some of my posts seem somewhat inexperienced - I've always admired watches and recently taken an interest in vintage pieces, Speedmasters being my target at the moment. I am a newbie but I'm eager to learn, that's why I'm here. I've been reading quite a bit on speedmaster101.com and have heard mention of 'straight lugs' and 'asymmetric lug cases' - can you tell me what the difference is between the two please and how to differentiate them? I've tried to look at some examples on the internet but can't seem to tell the difference at the minute. Also, why are the straight lug pieces more desirable? Thanks
Straight lugs are rarer. Asymmetric cases look like the watch sold today. Demand for straight lugs is higher than supply can satisfy.
Straight lug watches have straight lugs. Asymmetrical ones have twisted lugs. ..sorry, couldn't resist. Spacefruit's blog shows good examples of each as he's pointed out.
