Did Omega ever refinish dials when someone may have sent a watching to be serviced or refurbished?

Yes, and not always correctly or particularly well in many cases.

I took my watch service few years ago, they offered a re dial which I quickly turned down.
don't think they can do a good job on what's already a nicely aged 40s chronograph.

I'm not sure what sense that would be. It's not original at all, just painted over by someone working for the same company who made it many years earlier.

It all depends on their definition of "original".

Many sellers will say that the dial metal is original. That is technically true. It is also evasive of the real point, that the dial does not look like it did when it left the factory.

It's a real minefield out there and all you can arm yourself with is knowledge.

Not even that necessarily - they used different dial suppliers over the years, and who knows if they are still around, so the dial may go to a completely different company than the one that originally made it.

I doubt they do these in-house, so it's just another redial IMO.

    Cheers, Al

I agree. But over the years I have also seen reprints which were actually better than the originals.
