Hi guys , I stumbled upon this little watch. The seller state that is from 50 but it mounts a 485 caliber so I think it is coming from the late 60 or 70.
It seems to me in a quite good shape, it is advertised as fully functional so finger crossed because I paid only 45 euros for this.
I would like to gift it to my wife, I find a small vintage watch very sexy on the small wrist of a lady but maybe I am the only one looking at how many vintage watches are scraped for gold or simply trashed.

If it runs and your wife likes it, I imagine that you will easily get at least 50 euros worth of satisfaction from it. The serial number appears to be 30M, which would be ca. 1969.

I’ve thrown away 50 euro on way worse purchases. Probably many that I’ve literally just thrown away not long after buying (I’m the worst).

I wish my wife would wear any of the watches I’ve bought her, just isn’t her thing.

You did fine. Get it serviced (which will cost 3-5x what you paid for it) and then give it to her. I’m a cheap-ass when it comes to my watches and many I wear right out of the box until they tell me they need help. But I always get my wife’s watches serviced. Nothing will turn someone off vintage watches faster than to have one stop mid-day.

Gotta agree 100%. Nice watch for 50 Euros, but get it serviced before giving to your wife (and put a new strap on it).

I have found that getting your partner involved in the process can be fun. Let her pick what ever color she wants for it. It doesn’t have to be stuffy brown or black- it can be fun colors or patterns too. Even a selection with quick release straps can make it more versatile.

I finally got to ask someone about scrapping watches. I became friendly with a guy who owns a shop I frequent thst sells miscellaneous collectibles. He scrapped a 50’s IWC with a gold case. He had the movement which I was able to save and find a SS case for. I think he got 360usd for the case. It seems those watches go for at least 2k. I told him I would have payed more than scrap. His answer was “it’s about getting things in and out quickly, that’s how I make my money and gold moves quick.” I don’t quite grasp it. He owns a bunch of real estate and rents out to several other antique shops and other businesses. If he was struggling to pay bills I would better understand his actions. I guess it works for him and he said it’s standard practice in that “industry”. I understand if you buy something you can do as you wish with it but to me it’s destroyed history.

But anyway nice pick up for your wife. I’d love to get my wife a nice little watch like that but she would probably have it back on eBay the next day double the price. She doesn’t think we need watches since we have cellphones and clocks.

If it makes someone you love happy I would hardly call it « thrown away ».

Yes, I registered on this forum with 2 emails because I forgot I already registered, and sometimes it happens I log in with the wrong one.
This is my main account 😀
I gave up with the Zenith because the seller didn't accept a reasonable method of payment.

I have a friend of mine who can service it for a very reasonable price, a new strap is on the list may be, as suggested, we can try some "modern color. Let's see 😀.
Thank you all for all your help

These make nice gifts and overall it looks good if the flakes are removed from the dial
