on the ebay, I’ve got an offer from a seller as a ‘second chance’. Since it was a private listing, I cannot know whether the other biddings are fabricated or not.

However, I think it’s a decent deal for $400.... except for these issues:

    1. replaced crown
    2. heavily polished, loosing its lines
    3. replaced caseback

Should I take this offer? or is this ‘second chance from private listing’ a scam?

    Thanks :)

    Don't know if it's a scam or not but hey, if it's not, it's a 18K Polerouter for 400$!

The hands have lume but the dial does not. Replaced case-back as noted. Badly polished as noted. Replacement crown as noted. Seems heavily frankenized and not desirable as a collectible watch, so I don't see why you would want it. However, if the case is 18k, then $400 is probably a fair price considering the parts and scrap value.

I don't know that it's 18kt. Looks replated and caseback is same color/consistency as the case. I'd say you're getting fleeced.

Where are the hallmarks on the lugs?

Oh, the hallmark. I almost forgot that. Thanks for the lesson!!!!

Then, is it a heavily polished steel case which has been replated in gold?

If they went through the trouble of plating the caseback, I would say anything is possible. I would want to see hallmarks on the case.

Whatever it is, it is not 18K gold. A solid gold watch would generally not say “Acier Inoxydable” on the caseback. There were a few JLC’s made with solid gold cases and steel backs, but these are the exceptions, not the rule.

The color balance may be off in the photos. My guess is that this a badly worn gold-capped version. The fact that the chapter ring doesn’t match the color of the case may point to a re-plating job.

I would pass on this one at any price. Looks like a big money pit.

The only time I got fleeced on Ebay was with a second chance offer, where someone had hacked into the account. It was an expensive lesson!

There are some red flags that would make me think twice about buying from this seller. The seller is located in Brazil, and some of the positive feedback looks iffy unless the same buyer bought more than one item.

It's obviously cheap for a Polerouter but my advice would be to pay a bit more for a better and more honest looking example.

I think it is a cobbled together watch and would stay away ::stirthepot::

And on top of all the other, better comments... this is not a nice looking example. The color mismatch is glaring
