I won this for $ 600. except for the replaced crown, dial looks good to me. however, why is it cheaper than usual? now Im kinda reasoning the valuation.
I don't know much about these, but a couple things stand out to me. First, it looks like rust on the dial and in the movement; I suspect the service will be a bit more involved then a simple disassemble -clean-reassemble. And second, the case looks pretty heavily polished at the lugs (and it is capped/ plated).
If you like it and plan on wearing it then $600 doesn’t seem like a bad price. If it’s for investment? That’s different
Wrong crystal also, should have the rectangular cyclops. Still, all minor "collectors" quibbles. I bet it will be an attractive watch in person and you will enjoy it thoroughly, for a relatively small investment.
what is the problem with capped gold? is it possible to restore the dent or melted edge? how about recap it with SS?
Just that typically capped and plated versions of many watches seem to sell for less then their stainless steel brothers.
You can. What they meant by investment is to make a profit from selling the watch. For this piece that might not be possible.
With ‘investment’ I meant that some people buy items thinking the value will increase over time or right away and flip it. My thinking has always been ‘if I buy something thinking I would like to sell it in the future for profit and I can’t, can I live with it even if I can’t get my money back.’ It may not be the best example of a Polerouter, I think it looks great and would wear it
The round cyclops could be correct. There are known examples of Polerouter Dates with signed crystals with round cyclops.
I had this on my watch list but i didnt bid at all cause of the dial patina "problem". I think i can find a better one if i can resist and be patient. Iam not an expert tho
It depends on the patina. Peeling lacquer, radium burns, etc are alright but water damage, now that’s a whole other problem.
Patina is a "MUST to exist" for collectors! but as @kaisiang098 writes: "It depends on the patina" Water damage causes the less pleasant kind of patina. Patina on dial don't affect movement.
$600 is fine. I’ll second that it probably looks better in person than in these shots. I do hope your watchmaker can service these. I agree on the possible moisture issue.
