This dial was used in the 14393 for sure. Was discussed briefly on our forum here. http://omegaforums.net/threads/is-this-watch-on-ebay-legit-1960-omega-constellation-18k.4809/
Seems most of the 14398 are configured like this: But since they followed the 14393 maybe it's legitimate "transitional"?
I think most of the railway dials are 170ish. This watch is 172xxxxxxx so a possiblity I think. The one I just posted is in the 190's
Very interesting "Grand Luxe". Certainly uncommon. I suspect the hands, too. Maybe Desmond could add more information?
I think it's a De Luxe. I don't think it's a solid gold dial. But hand riveted solid gold markers. That's how the Omega database describes. The railway dials are not solid gold. And look different metal color depending on the angle and light. They are gold color though And the rail track is silvery.
I think there were solid gold rail dials - we watched a solid gold 14.381 sell for near $3300 a while back. This should have sold for at least $1000 more if most collectors thought it was legitimate.
Dennis I don't think so. I have pics of it on the hard drive. And I sent you the listing about a month ago of the exact same watch in a little less condition. Fabsuisse is the seller on eBay. Take a peek at it.
Yes, I've looked at Gregg's / Fabsuisse's listing and like it a lot. That one surely isn't a gold dial. I thought this might have been: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291033626805Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Here's the thread with a picture: http://omegaforums.net/threads/the-un-posted-constellation.9066/ Maybe there weren't any gold railroad dials.
I guess Dennis is right. I guess the gold 14381 have solid gold dials. It's funny because the lighting is deceiving on this. The center of the dial is actually irradescent and the track is silvery. Even on these solid gold dials. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OME...595772401?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3f3c5e99f1Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
As far as I am aware they did make solid gold dials for the 14382 and the 14394 as in this pic of a 14382 DeLuxe Here, the pic has been taken at an angle to show up the gold chapter ring, whereas in front-on pics often the chapter ring looks white . I have seen 14398s over the years with the trenched dials (when I was 'growing up' that's what they called them, as opposed to the full and half railway chapter rings on Centenary models) and, like you, have discounted them as De Luxe dials in a Grand Luxe. Maybe there were examples during this period where the trenched dial was an option and Omega was experimenting with the elimination of "Officially Certified" because it basically was a redundancy. I wouldn't completely discount it, but would be very eager to see the dial back to confirm it was gold. Cheers Desmond
