What’s the deal with the podium for the watch brand on the dial?

I’d have assumed it was either to cover up misspelling OMEGA or maybe ELGIN.

 

I haven’t seen it much before, I think it’s called a plank dial or a cartouche

 

I can’t recall ever having seen anything like it before.

The 2517 showed up today, it’s a great watch. I mounted it on a 1950’s omega strap I had in my stash.

It’s late here so unfortunately I couldn’t get pics in good light
