    I am still kicking myself three days later - I caught this one minutes after it went up and missed out. It was up as a BIN or Best Offer at a very reasonable price and instead of hitting "BIN" I tried to save a few hundred dollars. So stupid, as my offer was immediately declined and 15 seconds later it was gone. Really hope a forum member grabbed it and would love to see more of it.

    A recent eyebrow raising listing on our own sales corner makes me curious to know what the BIN was on this.

    Talking about my recent salespost that was deleted today, without an explanation?

    It has nothing to do with the watch in this thread. The watch I'm selling is actually the same watch I sold three years ago.

    The watch posted sold for $4500. I am willing to discuss the merits of my watch compared to this one, if anyone would like to have the discussion.

    Nice! Your watch has the more common Omega box from the 60s and 70s with the correct red velvet lining. The OP watch appears to have a generic box, wrong color lining and without Omega logo.

    I have a -78 with a 45 million s/n so is from the end of the 145.022 series. Is there a date code along bottom of one of the pages in your You and Your Omega brochure and if so what is that date? I've been casually correlating the purchase year via sales receipt, buckle date code where applicable and movement s/numbers for Speedmaster Professionals. I also am interested in what box set they originally came with. I'm not getting very far but it is interesting.

    @ChicagoFrog

    Ok, I'll fess up, I am the culprit. I have a milestone birthday approaching and I told my wife that I would love to have a birthyear speedy. In a true testament to how amazing she is, not only did she think it was a cool idea, but she jumped in headfirst on the hunt. The first place I suggested to her to look was right here on OF and she went so far as to even create a profile of her own so she could search without my knowledge, ask questions, etc. I have no idea what her username is so at this point, I will extend a general thank you to any an all OF members that graciously responded to any of her questions. For quite a while now, any idle moments have been spent scouring eBay, OF, and many other sites trying to complete this quest. Mind you, my wife is not a watch enthusiast and has on many occasions poked fun at me for what has become a growing obsession. That she has jumped in the way that she did just adds to the long list of how great she is and how lucky I am.

    I will happily post photos, but it will be a bit. You see, my birthday is in a couple months and since we were successful in completing the search early, and because I am famous for playing all kinds of pranks on my wife and daughters, I have already been told that I am not allowed to have it until my birthday. In fact, when it arrives here at the office, I'm not even allowed to open the box. The plan is that she'll take it to the local OB to have checked to be sure everything is functioning as advertised so we can confirm that with the seller. Then, she and my daughters plan on hiding it from me until my birthday. Of course when told of this plan, my only response was, "Yeah, I probably deserve that."

    On a side note, the seller was wonderful and provided additional photos that were requested, specifically of the movement, inside case back, etc. Based on the photos and info provided via ilovemyspeedmaster.com, it is predicted to actually be a 76, maybe 77. The movement was very clean, end links all matching and correct. These questions I only knew to ask and qualify thanks to what I've learned here so thank you to everyone who contributes.

    So to @ChicagoFrog, sorry for beating you to the finish line, but thank you for your moment of pause and I wish you the best on the next one!

    Ha, that's a great! Glad that it went to someone like you instead of another capitalist pig like me who would've enjoyed it for a month and flipped it for a modest profit. Not only did you get a hell of an example, but you got a great price and some nice provenance with the army exchange layaway slip that accompanies it! Service it and wear it proudly! (and yes, post pics here when you finally get to open it).

    Cheers
