What exactly does dibs mean? Is there a sticky for this? Is it in the forums by-laws?

If you say dibs do you have to legally buy the watch (just kidding but seriously)? Will your reputation be harmed if you don't? Is it actually the right of first refusal (RoFR)? Help me out here. I may have dibs'ed something out of my price range. Couldn't help it really!

Does dibs place certain obligations on a current watch owner? Is someone out there keeping track? I suppose I should although I have never been dibs'ed. What happens if I dibs and then it's sold to someone else

Dibs is a unwritten rule where some of us will contact the first dibs,er if ever going to sell.

You are right it can be passed if watch fund is low and it would go to the next.

I myself picked a watch up a few weeks ago via a PM on a dibs that I was quite happy to have recieved

Some may not remember all the dibs and there is no harm in that.

Oh, forgot to post some subject related thoughts.....

I keep track of any dibsers by using one of 3 methods:

1) I mark the dibs by quoting that member and/or using my special word.
2) I keep the PM in my Inbox - which can be a p.i.t.a. to find if you can imagine how many PM's moderators get
3) I simply search my posts for the "incoming" thread and see the order of dibsing.

@ulackfocus i wouldn't want you to beat up some old guy just cause I dibs'ed a watch and they missed it. Your dibs list should be public

Much easier to scribe their user name on the case back of the watch they have "dib'd" on using a compass.
