Hello and would appreciate any help with this constellation, the dial print looks a bit bolder on the bottom.

Also trying to figure out the reference number, no movement or caseback shot unfortunately.

A quick Google comes up with ref.157.0002. Dial looks original, but to be honest I don´t find it a very attractive Constellation. Have you looked at the earlier calibre 3** and 5** series of Constellations? A much better design period IMHO.

    Thank you!

Out of curiosity how did you find the reference in Google? I didn't see any markings that would help on the caseback.

I agree about the styling. But this one is for a friend who really likes the style.

If only I could get a movement and case back shot.

Not so difficult Googled, ``Omega 712 Constellation`` and half way down the page is an image from an Italian forum.

Seller sent me some pretty low resolution photos of movement and caseback.

The movement is supposedly serviced. Looks like rotor wearing along the inside of the caseback?

Judging from all the gunk and/or corrosion around the case back and the general overall poor state of the watch I´d say the ink is still wet on that `watchmakers inscription` and it should not be taken as any evidence of a recent service. How much is the asking?

He wants 685. The actual movement looks pretty clean though?

I´m no watchmaker, but having skimmed through some of the sellers other listings he claims they have all had a $500 dollar service which I find hard to believe.

I'm not an expert on vintage Connies (nor that reference), but other than the desirable pie-pan variants, don't think they should command that price. Unless I'm provided recent service papers, I always calculate servicing into my total investment. The handful I've purchased/sold are in the 150-500 range.

I agree that's hard to believe, but the movement doesn't look trashed. It's overpriced buy haven't found another.

Let's say you buy it at 650 and it turns out to need a service at 250-350 and maybe a part or two on top. Before you know it you're in $1000 and sorry but that ain't no $1000 watch.

If you are only after that one specific model I would advise much patience and search for one in perfect shape. It will probably only cost the same as your example as this reference isn't really sought after.
