Deciding b/n "cookies n' cream" & Great White GMTs

Hey all --

Oh man, I'll never get over the hilarious nick names like cookies n' cream...

Anyway - I'm deciding between these two GMTs. Anyone have first hand experience with both? Thoughts/opinions? I'll likely try to go try some on, but looking for things to look out for.

Right now I'm looking at a pre-owned Gerry Lopez from the 90s, and a Great White 2538.20:

I have the 2234.50. Great size, true GMT and looks great. That Gerry Lopez is kind of rare and has a beautiful caseback.

I’ve had mine since new. Been all over the world with it. GMT function is great for travel! Great size and weight. Sword hands have been the selling point for me from the beginning. Have a Bond bracelet and rubber strap but I usually wear on nato now.

I love mine. Wish I had the Gary Lopez caseback. Those look really nice.

I was more interested in the great white at first, but made an impulse buy on this version when I saw it at a great price. Excellent design overall - sword hands, super legible dial, bright lume, pop of color from the GMT hand, jumping hour hand, etc.

I've owned the Great White before, and after having it for a while I sold it because it didn't compare to my Polar Explorr II, however I think that the cookies n' cream would have been my type of diver-style GMT all along, and if that was the one I'd have bought first I'd probably still have it today.

I’d been hunting for a GMT for a while and pulled the trigger on a Great White. I only had it for about a week before passing it on, something about it just didn’t feel right. The Gerry Lopez would be my choice for sure.

I’ve had a couple of great whites and I actually think I prefer them to my PO LM LE, super legible for white hands on a white dial and a white dial is nice for a change. And neither have the HE valve

What I dislike about the pre-coax GMTs is the 24hr bezel with 1 hour "clicks". Who really needs a third timezone readout anyway? I prefer the timer bezel with 1 minute clicks on the later GMT watches.

Here's my current GMT - LOVE it. Have had the GW and C&C before, but kept this 2535.80.00.

bond-blue, applied markers, timing bezel, He valve... what's not to like?

Also, the earlier GM and C&C have the pre-professional sliding clasp, which is more fragile and kinda sucks.

I have been having this same debate for some time now, my choice would definitely be the C&C over the great white. I really wish i would have grabbed one last year it seems prices have come up since then.

They have a bit. The one I have my eye on is at ~$2500; a lot of listings on forums from sales over the last few years have them around 2 or under.

@Claven2 - love that! I considered that too. Maybe next time.

I missed a chance at a very well kept C&C for 1600 last year still regret not jumping on that deal, o well the hunt continues

They also tend to trade at a higher price than the pre-coax models, fwiw. Something like $500-1000 more from what I see lately. Budget is a consideration.

For some reason, Great Whites on the used market seem to be in better general condition vs the so-called C&Cs which seem to always be overpolished or have a crooked bezel relative to the insert
