Debating whether to keep or remove an inscription - can I find a descendant instead?

I have an 18K watch with "Kurt Mark / Göteborg" inscribed, a deluxe Omega

I was initially intrigued, but as I refine my collection, I'm just not sure about inscriptions any more

I wonder if anyone has accounts on genealogy websites that can see whether he has any descendants that might instead be interested in purchasing the watch at cost?

I actually really like them if they’re done well and elegantly. If they’re crummy looking I try to remove them and I’ve owned a few that have engravings that look like prison tattoos but the good ones I think just add to the watch.

Tracking down a descendent is an interesting idea, but they may expect you to give them the watch rather than sell it to them so might need to set out expectations early.

Agree. If they’ve been done with a crudely in someone’s garage they can ruin a caseback but those in a nice vintage font, done well add character and interest imo

I think it is part of the provenance of the watch and shows it has a real history. Maybe the old owner will bring you some luck. I dont tend to buy a watch with an inscription unless I am interested in the person or the research process to find out about them. I would not remove it myself / we all should leave a mark in some way. It is also a unique tell / better than a serial number if the watch is lost or stolen...
