Don’t know about the movement, but as far as how it can be worn, I personally feel that the rules of how and when watches should be worn these days are a lot more subjective. I’d see no problem wearing this with a polo and Jeans. I wear a silver dial Globemaster on a croc strap with Jeans, t-shirt, denim jacket and combat boots, and I love the pairing just fine and couldn’t care less if anyone found it in poor “taste” or “unrefined”. It really depends on what you like, if you want to conform to traditional aesthetics, or if you’re willing to accept that you like a look that may not fit the exact “rules” of how and when a watch should be worn. Saying all that I really don’t find the pairing of this watch with jeans and a polo to be much of contrast, not nearly as much as say a G Shock with a tux.

That's very true and nice to see someone else who isn't fussy about what should be worn with what etc. I certainly don't care what others think, it was just whether the overall size and design would be suitable for all settings etc.

Something I didn't think about before posting this was that I have a Tissot Visodate that I wear with anything. The only time I wouldn't wear it is when doing messy/tough jobs or when swimming.

The Globemaster, Railmaster and Aqua Terras have always been my favourites (to compliment my Bond SMP) so buying the De Ville, mostly due to this one being an attractive price, may be a costly mistake; I may be better off saving up and waiting to buy one of the aforementioned that would almost certainly get more wrist time.

Still, be nice to see some other De Ville owners' views and photos.

Thanks.

I hear what you’re saying, and do find it good to consider if you’ll get the most bang for buck as to how much you can wear a watch across many circumstances. I think when it comes down to size and style being suitable for different settings it really comes down to your taste, because opinions really seem to differ on the subject. I can see your consideration here seeing as the Prestige being marketed as a dress watch, so the natural question of how casually can I wear it comes up, but again I think only you can answer that question because people will have opinions on both sides.

I think your Tissot example could be a good indicator of how you may wear this one. Even though the Globemaster is robust and water resistant, I too wouldn’t wear it when doing tough messy jobs or when swimming, but I won’t wear any expensive watch doing those things regardless of whether they’re a dive watch or something more suited. But I think that’s more a concern of function than aesthetics.

I think it’s definitely advisable to hold out for what you truly want. It easy and tempting to just buy what you can afford right now, but it also makes it that much harder to reach the one you really want, so it’s something to consider. Saying that the De Ville line has really grown on me, especially the Prestige and the Tresor.

Very true indeed.

It's a difficult shout as the De Ville is a stunner and not a model I'd have previously short-listed/considered previously. The Globe master is my grail but it seems to hold its value well so unlikely a viable acquisition for me whereas the Aqua Terra or Railmaster could be.

That said there are a couple of attractively priced Globenasters on eBay right now but much of what's on eBay scares me a little. The grey, white or blue GMs on leather are near perfect in my eyes.

I think it may be best to visit an AD and look at the range up closer ideally, albeit a self-torteous experience.

Thanks again.

You can get a Globemaster new for 30% below MSRP on the grey market, so I think it’s definitely within reach if you’re also considering the Aqua Terra and Railmaster. It maybe best to check out what kind of deal you can get at your AD as there maybe more assurance with an Omega warranty... but if you’re getting a huge discount from a grey dealer, it may even be more affordable to work in the cost of a full service through Omega and potentially still come out ahead of any deal from an AD by a good margin. Best of luck.

Thank you.

A grey dealer is not the route I'd wish to take really, especially if it invalidates the warranty. Probably look for a nearly new.

A couple of the big high street jewellers occasionally put ATs and GMs up for significant discounts from time to time. A beautiful grey GM, and later the blue one with rose gold bezel, was reduced by 25% recently so such deals are the ones I'll be keeping an eye out for I think.

That makes sense about the warranty. Sounds like you found some good deals at the AD. Look forward to seeing some photos if you get to the point of pulling the trigger.

Just to confirm, if buying from grey importers does that therefore mean the warranty is invalidated?

To be honest I don’t know. Personally if I was going grey with a co-axial movement I would not rely on using their warranty (unless they provided an Omega warranty) and just factor in the cost of a full service through Omega as part of the over all cost. But that’s just me. Perhaps someone else who’s delt with grey dealer warranty’s will chime in.

My wife wears a De Ville Prestige with a 2500d movement and really likes it. It’s a dressier watch, but still looks nice with jeans. We bought it from a grey market dealer at 40% off retail (savings of about 3k) and have had no mechanical issues. Given that Omega charges $500 for a full chronometer service, going grey is a no brainer even with no warranty from Omega. The watch was brand new with tags and protective film still attached, packaged carefully, shipped promptly, and ran like a champ right out of the box. No complaints.
