Just landed, my first Rolex, always wanted a Daytona with a black bezel and dial, so took the plunge, very pleased I did.

I kinda want to see these in the flesh. I am not in love with ceramic in watches in general though.

Congratulations! I'm currently waiting on "the list" at my local AD. Smaller store with lower volume and so they're hoping to see arrivals beginning in the fall. How do you feel about the size? That's one area I'm a little concerned over as they're said to wear small and 40mm is already at the small end for me.

I also am not in love with ceramic bezels "in general". I prefer the older, thinner profile with smaller writing pm bezels over the newer big chunky bezels with large lettering (ie: new GMT II). This new Daytona bezel while larger than I'd prefer is small enough that it works for me...

The biggest benefit from the XL bezel on the new Daytona models is that it does balance out the pusher buttons and the crown size better, as they are slightly off balance on the prior model.

I normally wear a speedy pro which is slightly bigger dial but this seem fine to me as you have the pusher/ crown assembly adding to the size. I will post a photo of two to compare.

Anyone know what the current length of the waitlist is in terms of months/years?

depends on country and AD....many people have already put their name on a list or multiple lists. If you put your name down now, I've read/heard the wait can be as short 18 months to as long as 5 years (or more). Essentially, its all over the map in terms of wait times. If you're lucky you could get one within a year...maybe. IF you are a big $ spender at local AD or you dropped $100k USD buying other watches - there might be one waiting for you in the back room right now!! ;-)

I do like these much more than expected, having now seen them in the flesh.

White dial version on order. The wait will allow me time to determine if it is lust or love. ;)

Thanks a ton for the side by side wrist shots. Helps a lot seeing it next to the pro. As you stated, it certainly appears a bit larger than its actual dimensions.

A definite want for me. Of course the only AD in town hasn't received any yet and is hoping to get "a couple in this year." I fear by the time my name comes up on the list, there will be 3 new versions of the Daytona and 85 new Omega LEs....

It is really hard to tell the size difference from your photos. The watches need to be absolutely flat on the table. I did a quick check and the Speedy is larger. I have a feeling this would be noticeable. I got the Daytona bug bad and really wanted one. But it was small. So I purchased a reasonably priced Speedy reduced which is about the same size and found it was just too small.

Anyway your can see the difference at the top. The red lines are parallel and the green lines are parallel.

On the wrist the Daytona does indeed wear a lot smaller than a Speedy Pro, it actually even wears smaller than the rather slight 105.002/CK2998 pre-Pro without the crown guards and even smaller than a Zenith A386 El Primero, she's quite a petite little thing the Daytona.

I really think that Daytona is one of the best looking watches to come out of Rolex recently.

Both watches are gorgeous! But the Daytona is currently the hottest watch now and commands a rich premium! With limited dough, I rather get the speedy pro!

I have the 42mm Speedy Pro (black dial - black bezel) and 42mm Explorer II 216570 (black dial - silver bezel) and while they are the same size physically, the simpler Explorer II "looks and wears" larger to me. The proportion of chunkier bezel with larger numbers, the larger applied indexes make the same physical dimensions "appear larger", at least to my eyes.

I find the same is true when comparing the physically larger Speedy Pro at 42mm with the new Daytona ceramic at 40mm. The Daytona may be 2mm smaller in true physical form, but again the chunkier looking bezel, the applied indexes and the greater contrasting sub-dials make this watch "appear" the same size as the Speedy.
