Hi All,

I have taken a break from watches recently and just took a look at Modern Daytona prices. Last I looked end of last year they were hovering around 30K. Now they seem to be about 45-50K on watchrecon. Is this price increase real? Seems crazy.

Kind regards,
Mike

It is… real AND crazy!

For a while, asking prices even neared 60k!! 🤨

Yes very real. Not sure how much longer this can sustain. Seems like an unbelievable amount of money for a $14,550 retail watch.

They have gone completely nuts. It's the same for AP, VC and PP. I was going to buy an AP 15500 for my 50th, like you I don't really keep an eye on the prices. I had my name on a wait list for a year then they emailed me saying they were no longer an AP stockist. Had a look on Watchrecon and they had sky-rocketed, now they are US$70k+. Want a laugh have a look at the 15202 prices, well over US$100,000. Absolute, complete and utter madness. Until recently you buy a VC Overseas 4500 with a discount now you can't even buy them for retail if you can find one.

Also, The GMT BLRO. I saw them at the 20 K mark a few months ago. I've seen some asking prices in the 30K range? NUTS

Who is paying those prices? It can't all just be flash wankers on Instagram.

Absolutely real price, absolutely crazy obscene market.

The obscene thing is that dealers are still buying at almost 50K because there is so much demand they settle for a fast flipping with a small mark-up.

Rolex says the price is $14,550 retail, but Rolex doesn't set the STREET price. No manufacturer sets the street price of their product, the market sets it. Right now the market says the real price is in the $50k range. It is what it is.

I remember a few years ago when the same thing was said once they hit $24k!

rolex is just getting rediculous at this point. its not feasible to buy any modern Rolex at grey market therefor not at all since you can't get them from an AD unless you're rich or connected 😵‍💫

At this price the smart choice is buying the Zenith Daytona ref 16520 as it’s far less common and more interesting for less money. 100%

I mean you’re not wrong, a mint vintage A386 is still less than any Daytona and is just straight up a more special watch.
