Datejust 1601 and 1603 Questions

Hi all,

I'm currently debating on my next purchase - it's between an Omega Connie and a Rolex Datejust (1601 or 1603) - I was hoping to get some opinions on these two DJ's:

On the first one, I tend to look for the open 6 and 9 date wheel, but this looks a bit funny to me (maybe it's the picture). Also, what would make the engraving of the reference number look a bit sloppy like that (i.e. the 1601 is not crisp)? In general, I think this one is a little too expense for the condition but I'm looking to glean some knowledge!

On the second one, should it say "Stainless Steel" above the serial number on the case side? I've seen examples with and without but I'm not sure about the distinction.

Thanks!

Both are fine. The prices aren't a steal but they aren't gauging by any means. I'd be happy with either. The sloppy stampings inside the case backs are just that, stampings and aren't meant to be seen by the customer. I've seen better and I've seen worse. All fine. Also, the exterior engravings are just variations.

Just remember, if you're in the US, it is illegal to import a Rolex through the mail. If customs catches it, they will confiscate it. Heed my advice here. I've heard many horror stories about seized Rolex watches.

Thanks for the input!

I have also heard warnings bout importing into the US - I'm in Canada and I don't believe that the same issues exist here...

Both seem like fair pieces from good sellers. I especially like the "Wideboy" Datejusts with this dial configuration.

That's Trev's favourite Datejust too, I think he's still looking for one in SS with domed bezel and wideboy dial/hands, ideally the non-lume version if they exist, not really sure if they're original or if people just removed the lume from theirs.

No worries here in Canada - I believe the US is the only country with such restrictions.

Cheers, Al

Is there a desmond-esque website for oyster dates? Would like to start researching them.
