    Hi all.

When you buy a vintage watch with date, do you check the date disc to see if it's original, refinished , matching color with the dial, newer/older than the dial ..etc ...?

Never really made a point of it, but I do flip through a few days to make sure it changes correctly. Not all of them match the dial color, particularly gold dials.

Do they age the same way? or the dial age faster, date disc slower?
These gold dials and their discs look acceptable to me

How do you assess if the date disk is correct for the watch? Think there's the open 6 and9 for Rolex. Any way to tell for Omega? Thanks in advance.

Date disks are made specifically for each family of calibers, so I don't think there is any way to fake them. An Omega disk isn't going to fit a Rolex and vice-versa.

I've seen a few refinished ones, but it really doesn't make sense as new disks are avaliable for most movements.

    Hope this helps,

Good to know. Guess it is a minor factor.
    Thanks Gator!

Yes, it's a minor factor but sometimes it can tell a big story about that watch (difference in color, scratched or damaged....)

Yeah. A beatup case and aged date disk with a dial in good condition tells a lot.
