Dark Side of the Moon - nobody gives a..

I travel the world and i see the new Dark Side of the Moon offered new at the omega store everywhere for approx 11,000$. On line the same watch can be found for 7000$ tho 8000$. Sorry to be late to the party but explain to me what is going on. Thanks

Simple. Omega Boutiques and Authorized Dealers must agree to sell at or reasonably close to Omega list prices. Grey market dealers don’t have to. Both make a profit, the former much more than the latter.

Surprisingly not so. The authorized boutiques and dealerships have to pay fees and marketing, and in many cases brick and mortar costs that internet grey dealerships don’t. So they don’t make much more of a profit. It’s the other way around. Grey dealerships don’t carry as much cost of sales.

Costs a lot to sell out of a shop ( staff, lighting, rent in a city shopping complex ) compared to your garage at home.

That being said, and back on the OP theme... what’s wrong with the sides of the moon? They’re great watches, but they’re gimmicky. It was first a bold statement and then...... they kept bringing another and another and another.

I agree they should’ve kept it simple with the black and the grey and made it special but instead we got every color side of the moon you could imagine.

As always it comes down to supply and demand......some Omegas are more popular and desirable. You don't see #speedytuesday watches at discount because supply is aligned with demand.

That's a fair point. The boutiques do indeed have to pay their staff and all the other costs associated with running a store. It would still be interesting to know exactly how much they do make in net profit after doing all that compared to a grey dealer - none of us really knows for sure if one does much better than the other.

I see the watches offered everywhere. Airports, stores, online.... and so on. There’s an oversupply of them. It doesn’t seem to be matched by strong or equal demand.

Appreciate all the comments but difference in pricing between Omega stores and online (11,800$ vs 7,500$ for the black dark side of the moon) is still hard to justify. Gotta charge additional 4300$ x watch to cover marketing and personnel? Sounds crazy

Seriously? Do you know much about overhead costs? Payroll taxes, insurances, rent, utilities, etc., etc., etc. At my small company, overhead costs are 1.4x the labor costs.

I don't mean this in a ****head way at all, but did you just start paying attention to watches? I ask because it's odd you're fixated on the Dark Side of the Moon and your perception of bloated pricing from OBs and ADs. The same reality applies to loads of watches, not just the one you seem so taken aback by here. $4K off of $11K is a 36-percent discount. Guess what, if you shop with gray dealers, pretty much that exact same discount can be had on the veritable Speedmaster Pro as well as many other models. This topic has been covered on here on the OF who knows how many times. There's honestly no need for yet another thread on this.

What's the point of this thread? You wanted to know why the difference is so great, and you got the answer immediately-- overhead. But you're not satisfied with the reason..... why? Do you want someone from the Boutique to call you and send you a 50% off coupon?

If you want the watch, just go and buy it from a gray dealer.

Overhead, Brand Positioning, Warranties and Licensing.

That's the top three drivers of authorized Dealerships and Boutiques. None of which has to be accounted for by a gray dealer.
