I live within a 20-25 minute drive from Rock Island Auctions. They are well known for firearms auctions, so this is interesting. If anyone is interested in this auction, PM me and I will see if I can get a viewing.

It's very cool but my first reaction is the engraving quality
is surprisingly low. Now I'm off to find one.....

The research done by the auction house is impressive, and I would suggest that in its day, that type of inscription would have been considered of reasonable quality. Also, bear in mind that Eisenhower, while certainly well enough known at the time, was not yet the iconic figure that he would later become.

Of course there was much finer engraving done, and far earlier than the mid 20th-century. I am simply pointing out that it wouldn't be surprising to find a more simple type used, and especially in the U.S.

Since this auction site was close by, I was able to get a private viewing today of the watch and give them more info on the watch itself. I met with Nathan, who was a great guy. I told Nathan it would benefit them to remove the case back and take pictures of the movement and the inside of the case back and post them on the auction page. Once the case back was removed, I was able to point out the movement number, serial number, and the movement date code, which dates the movement to 1941. The serial number dates the case to 1942. I was able to get a few picks on the wrist and next to my Speedy 145.012-68 for reference. We also measured the case at 32mm w/o crown and 34mm with crown. The watch looks a lot better in person than the pictures. It was a fun afternoon trying on a former President's watch!

Even if we ignore the Eisenhower connection, the fact that this watch was presented by Arde Bulova gives it a lot of interest (at least, to me).

Arde Bulova was the son of the founder of the Bulova Watch Co. who took over as president in 1938 (IIRC) on the death of his father. Arde is considered to be the one who turned Bulova into the major watch supplier that it became.

Wonder what the hammer price will be. I’m sure the appeal is not just WIS but military and ww2 collectors as well.
