Condolences on the loss of your father. That's a nice heirloom for you to remember him by; based on the wear, he obviously loved it and wore it regularly. It is a chronometer-grade Seamaster in a gold-capped over stainless steel case. The word "chronometre" on the dial indicates that it was originally regulated to a higher standard of timekeeping. The specific reference number and serial number of the movement are inside the watch, the serial number can be used to estimate the production year. The dial has some nice features, like applied 3-6-9-12 markers and crosshairs. It also has the original gold-filled bracelet.
As for valuation, in excellent condition, it would probably be worth $600-$800. Unfortunately, the condition of the dial and crown will have a big impact. I would also estimate less than $500. Personally, I wouldn't consider selling it, unless it really has no sentimental value to you. However, if you're determined to sell it, you should take a close look at the condition of the bracelet. If it is in good shape, you might do better by selling the bracelet and watch separately.
I agree with what has been said above, but can add that the watch would look better on a nice strap. The watch is from the 50s and the bracelet looks to be from the 60s and has the gold plating worn through.
Looks like a reference 2577. If I remember correctly @iamvr has one with the same dial configuration but in stainless steel. Like others have said I would keep it.

Good memory. Yes, my 2577 in stainless steel
OP, sorry for your loss. As others have said, I would keep it as well.
