    Hi all

I just bought this CWC RN issued 97’ diver and I kinda want to know if it is a genuine issued watch or not.
The Lumen is quite strong when exposed to a flashlight but still fades quite quickly, does that indicate that it has been repainted?

Hope you guys can help me clarify things

I’d say it looks OK. The only doubt would be the caseback looks pretty battered when compared to the midcase. Maybe that’s just a case of someone trying to open it with the wrong tools and/or ham fists, but perhaps it could be an alarm ? Could be an issued back fitted to a later watch. But I doubt this. Where did you buy it from ? That my give a clue...

That's because it's tritium, perfectly normal for aged tritium so another good sign.

Thanks for all the answers, much appreciated
I’ll just sit back and enjoy the watch without being nervous about it being fake

Even very old lume will often have a little bit of emission after strong light--as long as it fades quickly, it is likely to be the original. The scratches on the back are consistent with watch-wrench oopsies. The mid-case might have gotten a polish at one point, but the back was left alone so that the inscription stayed sharp. The clear lesson here is: don't crack your watches when you're on your third whiskey of the night (or morning--no judgement).
