Has anyone ever seen dials wit numbers cut off? Sure when it meets a sub dial but like this? http://www.chrono24.com/en/universa.../universalgenve/index.htm&manufacturerIds=249 Seller insists it's all original..
i do think it is possible, but will need much better pictures to scrutinize other details. The pictures in chrono 24 are over exposed. If you are really interested, you should ask seller for better pictures which can be easily made with iPhone or smart phones these days.
I'm not sure if the UG watch has an original dial, but I have seen dials where the Arabic numerals get cut off by subdials. Lange in particular has a habit of doing this (pictures from the web, not mine) Overt cut-offs: And more subtle cut-offs at 5 and 7
Thanks guys. I've seen loads cut off due to dials but the 8 on this one is flattened/cut off for no apparent reason and it just does't look like it fits with the rest of the font.
I agree with @jordn , the dial looks original. I don't think the 8 is cut off nor flattened, it was designed as such, on purpose. Just look how the 4 is also stylized. The way those numbers look is one of the reason I love UGs. The final price remains high, though.
Another flattened 8 here, found on Hodinkee Look how at this awesome7 !! http://instagr.am/p/L54a0EqyhQ/
On an iPad the pic look much better (iPhone is just too small). Agree dial is great. I have the exact same reference, what intrigue me though are 1) case back polished to a shine, mine is just Matt steel 2) the lug seems to have side holes which makes it easier to change strap, I think mine doesn't have those holes. But again with UG these small nuances are always a proper and appropriate possibility.
Yes, I've spotted that Tri-Compax aswell, the dial and the 8 are all original for sure, considering the back "polished", I think that it has been naturally polished by 70 years of wearing (you can notice the small original lines from the 40' original brush, back and lugs, that would have dissapear with a posterior repolish), I have that on mine too.
