Current SMP and wear

Quick query for those that own the current gen SMP (ceramic bezel & ceramic dial).

I’m currently torn on rebuying the 3861 Sapphire Sandwich Speedy (originally wanted a Monaco more when purchased) & moved it in before giving it enough time.

The green SMP, which usually would go against a lot of what I like in a watch, date, 42mm & HEV, non tapering bracelet, although prefer this on the rubber strap. I find myself drawn to this one more and more.

I actually prefer watches that I buy new, to age nicely with me, I wear then for most activities & occasions. My current BB58 whilst shows signs or wear, the bezel is now fading, all marks various stories I have.

Now I know the Speedy will do this, but would the SMP, I know the bezel won’t, does anyone have ones they’ve owned since release does it still look brand new?

Or should I wait and see what the new impending release will be (black dial, small waves, ali bezel, no date) do we think other colours we eventually be announced?

Ceramic will not wear at all unless you scratch it with something harder like diamond, chip it, or crack it... and that's better categorized as damage. The current version's white enamel also seems to hold up very well versus the previous 41mm ceramic version where the silver lettering tended to fade.

If you want patina/aging, you're better of waiting to see if the SMP Daniel Craig wore at the last Olympics is released with an aluminum bezel, or purchasing the No Time to Die or Bond 60th versions.

I did think that would be the case.

Not a fan Ti or the MoD markings for the NTTD. Shame as the green looks amazing, and feel those waves are nicer than the 60th.

Think I’ll wait for the release and the compare, and not forget the Speedy!

Had my first one for 4 years and was worn pretty much daily. Looked as good as new when I sold it. Built like a tank!

5 years, day in, day out….. metalwork - multiple minor wear & tear scratches but bezel, dial and windscreen look like new.

Although not current generation, mine has the ceramic bezel, this is it is after 8 years, many of those it was my daily beater, it’s seen a lot of action. The bezel is perfect but the rest of the watch has picked up plenty of knocks and scratches, which show it’s age and my history with it, I don’t think you’d be disappointed with how it will age as you use it.

Do you have the blue or black version? Also, do you take it in chlorinated water or is the fading from sun?

I have a BB58 blue and have wondered about this. Most faded bezels I see on BB58's are blue, and I suspect it's from chlorine.

I don't want mine to fade so I think going to use car wax on it protect it from UV light and other things that can fade color.

Thread drift alert!

Just as a matter of interest, have you had it serviced? If so, after how many years?
Starting to think about getting mine done as it has had a fairly tough life, shower every day, sea swimming regularly and various door knocks. Thought about waiting for a catastrophe then sending to Omega.
As Al says, its water resistant till it ain’t.

Mines the OG black and pretty much my daily for 5yrs. Worn it swimming pools, holidays, & I think it’s the sun, it’s not much fading but the gilt on the bezel has definitely toned down & has more silver hues.

Have seen some extreme ones, and one that looked ‘ghost’ almost. Will enjoy mine going that way.

It’s actually away right now for its first service, it’s at an independent watchmaker with an omega account, he will change all the seals and pressure test when done. His initial inspection said everything ok, just a bit dry. Should have it back in a week or so, 4 weeks lead time.
