Current market question, 145.018 Seamaster chrono

Recently bid on a stainless 145.018 on an online auction and wanted to sanity-check the price against current market opinion now that it's done - curious whether the winning bid tracks where this reference actually sits right now. Winning bid was $4,000 USD. Thanks!

What's going on with the hour hand? Is it bent, or is it just a weird photo. I don't really follow these, but I find that the goodwill auctions are usually a bit high these days. My theory is that people know it's a good cause, so pay a little more.

It seems like the auctions I've seen recently (and I do not look often, so it's a small sample size) have had higher prices than on ebay. You may be on to something with the charity angle.

4K would be a 'about right' or 'perhaps a touch high' for this in good shape from what I can see. There was a gold plated one for ~$2500 on ebay not long ago, and a basically perfect one of these (stainless) for ~$4500 at the beginning of the month. Back in may there was one that looks to have been in better shape than this that sold for $3300.

So I would say you're a bit high at $4k. Additionally, as Dan noticed, there is something goofy about the hour hand. I'd HOPE it is just a byproduct of how washed out the photo is (they messed with white balance HARD on that photo) mixed with going through a pretty scratched out crystal.

Thanks to the white balance of the photo, it isn't clear the quality of the dial itself (plus what is that mark at ~2 on the hour totalizer?).

Finally, this one has a ton of crud on it so desperately needs a clean. The top pusher is sitting funny as well. So this needs an instant trip to a watchmaker, preferably in a watertight/waterproof container.
