1966 Omega Constellation ref 167.005. It has original bill of sale from 1970 and omega cert of high precision. Dial is certainly refinished. Any thoughts or opinions on value, rarity, movement would be greatly appreciated. New to the posting in the forum but have been a long time lurker.

Sorry, but that dial kills it for me.

It is not particularly rare, and overall condition is not good. Lots of watches like this on ebay. Usually asking prices are very optimistic. So only look at sold examples on ebay to get an idea of value.

An original bill of sale can make a desirable watch more desirable, but it doesn't make an undesirable watch any less undesirable.

Since the dial is a huge elephant in the room, can you explain why you are interested. Is this an heirloom piece perhaps? Are you trying to sell it? If you are considering a purchase, then it's a clear no.

Yes, it is in a family estate sale and I was curious to the current value, being the dial is poorly refinished. Somewhat wondering if it would be worth looking for the correct dial or just keep it as a family heirloom and enjoy it for what it is.

Thanks for that context, it's incredibly helpful in questions like this, since I think that many people are going to assume that you are considering a purchase given the way you originally described it. The following is just one person's opinion.

Unfortunately, I am going to say that it's not worth restoring. The gold-cap is worn through on at least one lug, the case is a bit soft, and the rotor looks like a replacement. None of these issues are going to affect the functionality or sentimental value of the watch, but they limit the upside potential of a watch that isn't incredibly valuable anyway (a nice example might be worth about $1k usd, more or less). So the two options that make sense to me would be either to sell it as-is, or keep it as a keepsake. If you keep it, there are two options there as well. You can leave it as it is and just enjoy looking at it upon occasion. Or you can have the movement serviced (for a few hundred usd) and wear it.

Is it in your family or someone else’s? Not being cheeky, but you say it’s in a “family estate sale”, so if this is being offered for you to buy- you can find many others out there that won’t require the work/parts this would need to get it back up to snuff. If this has been gifted to you and has sentimental value, then keep it and wear it. It will need to be serviced which will cost several hundred dollars, and correct orginal dials do come up occasionally, but rarely in excellent condition and you need to know exactly which one is correct- and they are not cheap.

Hope all the feedback helps you make an informed decision and welcome to the forum.

And Dan beat me to it.

I see now that the title is a bit misleading. I am a family member, not actually a part of the sale. I have always loved vintage watches but am quite new to it. I loved the look of it but finding out about the refinished dial I figured I could reach out finally and get thoughts of those more involved in the watch realm. I appreciate all the feedback.

If it has no special sentimental value to you I would pass and wait for a better example.
