I was genuinely curious as to opinions here on this 69 speedster dial. Dial is original to watch. But there's something I find attractive about it. The lume plots of course are original and pretty degraded. What interests me are the step ring and registry rings appear somewhat pleasing. Brownish in places. Should I just accept this as a poor degraded dial and represent it as such? And just leave it at that. Please don't take this in any way as pre marketing of any sort. I am very keen to understand how the forum would see this dial. Appreciate all feedback of course.
It has a certain charm to it, may not appeal to everyone but it looks like a watch that has lived an interesting life. I think what sets it off is the scratched bezel - I find bezels that are scratched up around the perimeter to be interesting, with a particular vintage feel - though scratches on the interior of bezels (like missing numbers etc) are less attractive. In short:
Mossy uneven dial... new but degraded Chrono second. Not the best don out there The watch shows signs of water in the case
Yep. I think I would agree with that. Given the plots also with the hands, there must have at some point been water damage?
I'm looking at this from a noobs perspective Joe - rather than as a purist collector. So I'm drawn to those watches that please my eye, rather than my knowledge of what good is. I really like the browness to the edge of the step dial too, it's different and sets the Watch apart from others. I think the missing lume on the rhs of the dial though becomes a minus for me as it unbalances the dial as a whole. If this could be addressed credibly and cost effectively (in conjunction with the other work you've mentioned) then the watch could look quite fantastic I think. All the best Nathan
