Crystal with logo

Hello everyone!

I just bought a Seamaster from 1955 without a logo on the crystal. I knew that when I bought it and my plan is to have an Omega watchmaker change the crystal to an original one. Or is it preferable to keep the crystal as is?

A question that came up is when Omega began to put the logo on the crystal? Have they done that since the beginning, or is there a year when they started with this nice tradition? Could be useful to know If one should buy a really old watch sometime.

Best regards

I don't know when they started putting the crystal on it, but personally I don't care much about it. You don't really notice it, and a original crystal is not that important in my personal opinion. It's personal preference though, if you really want an original crystal just go for it. But you won't notice it and those crystals are prone to wear anyways.

Omega started with the logo crystal in the 1950’s, but no one knows exactly when. Different times for different models in different places.

Crystals are considered a “wear” item, routinely replaced during service. It is impossible to know if the crystal on your watch is original or not, even if it has the logo.

Depending on the particular model of Omega, a generic replacement crystal may have a reflector ring that is not compatible with the watch.
