What would be the correct original crown size for a steel Constellation, 1962 (19Mil serial) cal 561, pie-pan? Assuming it should be a decagonal crown? Would love to go original on mine.
What's the reference number? Most on the OVD appear to be the decagonal, checking with Ofrei, some references with the 561 don't.
Thanks. Of course the OVD doesn't have a photo of that watch, but Ofrei lists the decagonal for that reference as does every thread I've found. This one is pretty good. https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-constellation-14902-on-original-bor-bracelet.25678/
Considered opinion says 10 sided crown Some earlier Connies have fatter crowns But there are Connie adverts showing Seamaster style 'clover' crowns as well as 'lobed' crowns too The thinner 10 sided crowns are no longer available new The post above looks like the knurled replacement crown that is available in its place
I think it is the diameter of the thread that is important Desmond's blog has an essay on crowns But he doesn't really brook alternatives to the ten sider
The one in the link above is a close match to the original crown but 'projects' slightly (the original is flat) not sure it has the right diameter -2.15mm -others more knowledgable will no doubt offer inputs (i think it is meant to 'nominally' 2mm diam) Desmond's blog text for info http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.ae/2009/01/omega-constellation-crowning-glories.html lots of info in the above link Extract: Crowns of the Sixties There is far less ambiguity with crown styles in “Second Design Phase” Constellation models. With the exception of the advertisement overleaf, it appears that from the 143xx cases onwards, and for all 2mm crown pipes, except in C-Shaped and the hidden crown model 168.004, the decagonal crown #4204 (known as BF 1080) was standard for all models in the classic Constellation range. The 4204 was a slimmer crown all-round with a slightly protruding threaded shaft that received the crown stem, and complimented perfectly the dog-leg lugged cases in particular.
Make sure to measure your case tube. I purchased some of the decagonal crowns NOS with the protruding threaded shaft but they are for a 2mm case tube. My older Connies have a 2.5mm case tube so I am still on the hunt for the thicker decagonal crowns.
I'm not totally sure about 14xxx tube sizes but i think they should be the same as for a 168.005 case. This was the best replacement crown i could find for my watch (scroll down a bit for the crown part): https://omegaforums.net/threads/hello-new-to-omega-and-these-forums.29694/page-2 These crowns are available in both gold-cap and SS on ebay.
