Crown for a 167.005?

Hi all,

I was so fortunate to get to buy this 167.005 this week. The watch has been in the same family since 1963, and it has lived a life outside of the drawer.
The case is a bit scratched, but it does not seem to have been polished. The dial looks great and so does the movement.

I removed the scratches from the original crystal yesterday with sanding paper 2000, 3000, 7000 and Polywatch.

Now I would like to find the right crown for this. Is it correct that this reference should have 4204?

The polish looks great. From my research it appears the crown based on the case should be 42055

I believe the correct crown for the 167.005 was the #4204 faceted crown
(Mine for example)
I'm not an expert so happy to know if this is mistaken or if multiple types were used

4204, 42004 is the decagonal crown( the said original), the replacement was 42055 which is not decagonal. This is my understanding, but no expert

The originals are rare, case of hunting around.

Desmond has an article on Constellation crowns. Link below.

I'm also looking for the same decagonal crown so join the club. My WTB post with the details of the crown you're looking for except I'm looking for a yellow gold version.

Thank so you much for your help!
Before posting yesterday I saw this crown in another online community. To me this looks like a part I could use - it resembles 4204. Do you agree?

Hopefully somebody who knows more than i do can comment on diameter and thickness of a 4204, then use that to compare before you pull the trigger.

Best of luck

Desmond's chart for your info. @Sp3nce321 eBay reference is too thick to be 4204. @masek looks closer but it's not possible to tell without a caliper measurement.

I know 🙁
The seller measured 3x5 mm, so I was rather trying to figure out the different shapes…

Update:
I bought a couple of these crowns from the seller, and today I got it back from the watchmaker.
Looks very good to me. What do you think?

It looks right. If it works I would go with it and not worry further. Trouble with these crowns is they are hard to wind but with automatic just need to get it going and set time so less of issue. Good job on cleanup

Thanks, @SOG53 😀
Hopefully, I will not have to wind it much. Setting it was easy and luckily no date on this one 👍
