Crosshaired Black SMDV?

Saw this on an instagram account and my BS detector started buzzing since I *thought* the consensus opinion was that all black cross haired SMDVs were redials or had the cross hairs added after the fact.

Also, I'm not as familiar with the later productions of the 5xx movements, but this one isn't as coppery or shiny as I would expect to be. But the original poster (who will remain nameless) dates it to 1972 based on the serial number. There also seems to be some rust on the regulator still. And maybe the plates look like they came from different movements?

This is purely an academic exercise for me, so please be as honest as you care to in your opinions. 😁

Well, to begin with the dial hasn't got any lume, but the hands does. That's strike one.

Also, AFAIK this model isn't one of the few Omegas where the cross hairs aren't fully drawn through the text. Strike two.

Yeah, it’s a Don Draper fantasy watch. If the seller is claiming original dial, then they are either uneducated or deceptive.

Also- AFAIK, the Seamaster Deville was done by ‘67 so the ‘72 dating is wrong or the movement is a transplant.

Yeah Devilles with genuine crosshair dials have the lines through the text.

I know the consensus is the Black dialled, DeVille with crosshair doesn't exist but OmegaEnthusiast has one and is adamant it's original.

Here’s an original one - should be back from service soon 😁

Same dial variant as Omega Enthusiasts by the way.

Dated 1970- so the Seamaster Deville went that late? I read the DeVille was its own line by that point.

That's the sale date though isn't it? The actual watch could have been manufactured 3 or 4 years earlier by the time it was sold.

Looks amazing.

Would love to see some close ups of that dial once it's back.
